“You can’t get enough of what you don’t really want.” Huh? Here’s my take. We all have our buffers- excessive food or drink, maniacal work, destructive gambling or endless screen time. And for some it’s buying too much stuff. It’s whatever you’d call your guilty pleasure or harmless little secret. I’m not an expert on any of these, but If I’m out on limb, stuff is the sturdiest one.
More has a better PR agent than less. It’s the brand favorite. The crowd-pleaser. Not surprisingly, I’m working for Less. Here’s my pitch. Ditch your ‘more’. Lose whatever it is that consumes you. Possessions, proclivities, pastimes. You’re supposed to be the consumer, not the consumed.
If buying is your addiction, consider this. Buying what you don’t want or need may be a fleeting distraction but it robs you of the more lasting pleasure of “less”. Less can be a powerful pacifier too.
Try it. You might just like it.
